Our names are Wongama Baleni, Vuyile Msaku and Vusumzi Mamile. We live in Khayelitsha Town 2, SST, Section Silver Town.
Our story started in 2011 when we had an idea of starting our own business. To own our own business was a big dream for us, but we did not have the resources to accomplish this. We approached a NPO called Connect Community Development to assist us with finding investors for starting a business.
Murray introduced us to the guys from Ministry of Service Delivery (MoSD) who granted us a loan and business support and our coffee shop successfully opened its doors on 2 July 2012. We have learnt a lot from MoSD on how to run a business and continue to learn a lot from them. Since opening, the Department of Coffee has made a big difference to the people of Khayelitsha. They can now drink a cappuccino in Khayelitsha, a cup that they thought they would never be able to afford in their life, but now DoC made it possible for them to enjoy it. We also enjoy our visitors who come and taste our coffee from all over the world; we really like that people come and visit us in Khayelitsha.
Our vision is to build a successful business and open more stores, and we have to finish this mission whether it is raining on us or not. We are not only business men; we are entrepreneurs
